Privacy
Rooms is made by Ketelle Studio. It has no ads, no tracking and no analytics, and nothing about you is sold or shared.
In short: if you just play, Rooms keeps your progress on your device and puts your times on the leaderboards under a random guest name. If you sign in, it also keeps your email, a display name you choose, and your results, so they follow you between devices. You can delete your account and everything in it at any time.
On your device
Your progress, settings, best times and the levels you have opened are saved in your browser's storage on this device. Rooms does not use cookies.
Playing without an account
- A guest name. The first time you play, Studio gives this device a random name such as "Guest Otter 4821" and a secret code that stays on the device. Studio keeps the name and a scrambled copy of the code, nothing else about you.
- Your results. When you solve a level, Rooms sends your first time, fastest time, hints, moves and where you put the rooms, so Studio can check the solve and put it on that level's leaderboard under your guest name.
- A player count. Once a day the game sends a random number made on this device, so we can count how many different people play. It is stored scrambled and is not linked to your results.
With a Studio account
- Your email address, used to sign you in and for emails about your account: confirming your address, resetting your password, and telling you when your password changes or your account is deleted. It is never shown to other players.
- Your password, stored only in a scrambled form that cannot be turned back into the password.
- Your display name, which is public: it appears on leaderboards and on any level you publish.
- Your results, as above, tied to your account. When you sign in, this device's guest results move into your account.
- Signed-in devices, named like "Rooms on iPhone", so you can sign them out from your account page.
- Community levels you publish, the levels you like, and any reports you send, including the note you write.
Problem reports
If sending your times to the leaderboards goes wrong, the game sends us a short report so we can fix it: the game version, your kind of device and browser, your guest or display name, and which levels failed and why. You can also send one yourself from Settings. Reports never include your email address.
Keeping things running
Like any website, our servers see your internet address when you connect. Rooms uses it briefly to stop repeated sign-in attempts and spam; it is stored only in scrambled form and dropped after 15 minutes.
Seeing and deleting your data
- Your Studio account page lists your Rooms results and levels, and can download them.
- Delete account on that page removes your account, your results (taking you off every leaderboard), your community levels, and your signed-in devices. Reports you sent stay so we can deal with them, but no longer show who sent them.
- Without an account, clearing this site's data in your browser removes everything on the device. Results already on a leaderboard stay there under the random guest name, which is not linked to you.
Where it is kept
Studio's data is kept on Ketelle Studio's own server, and any backups of it are encrypted. Rooms and Studio are not run by or connected to any other company.
